It is totally screwed up. By any measure, but especially worldwide, our very expensive health care is failing us. It's failing even the people with tope of the line insurance and other means, which is doubly shocking to me, because if it's failing those people...you know it's failing everyone else further down the ladder.

The author actually dedicated this book to his brother, who tried to make a go of it as a screenwriter later in life and who was just waiting to get on Medicare so he could afford to have his chest pains checked out. He died of a heart attack just shortly before becoming eligible. So the author KNOWS this story and has real sympathy for everyone struggling.
