Exactly.

Hilariously enough, this is one example where "trickle down" does work. This attitude trickles down to the lower middle class, who are desperate not to fall any further, and who engage in the same (expensive) activities and schools to try and ensure success for their kids, and which erodes everyone's empathy. Ridiculous cycle.
