Excellent points all, but there might be other ways to consider this finding. I think our educational system is a red hot mess (ditto on my local school system), but when I volunteer in my kids' school I can see how hard people are trying to be decent and caring toward the children even though they serve a wide socioeconomic range and there are too many competing demands on their time. I guess I can't say I'm "pleased" with my kids' school, but on the other hand I'm humbled that the schools a. feed a ton of kids, a huge logistic challenge in itself, and b. have any energy left after dealing with the wide variety of parents and demanding educational administration types to do any teaching at all.
