I actually can't get myself to read or watch any more Irvine Welsh than this book and movie.

Some of the fascination here is because it seems like everyone thinks people addicted to heroin are lazy or failed people or something, and all I can think when I watch these stories is, geez, this looks like horribly hard work. Maybe that's why the sequel appealed. They all lost their "work" of heroin addiction and had to adjust somehow. I keep losing my work due to various tech advances or aging (journalism, book editing, librarianship, having kids), so I have to adjust too. Evidently these guys are my inspiration.

So glad to find a fellow "Shallow Grave" fan. Definitely one of my early clues that I was born on the wrong side of the pond.
