I actually feel bad for the schools because they are forced to be all things to all people. They now feed kids several meals a day, which I understand, but which is a whole other system. They have to watch everyone's kids, they have to deal with a lot of problems, they mainly have to do it all with very limited parental support. Imagine working a retail counter and all the horrifying things the public can throw at you. Schools are like that, except they're also mandated to feed and educate their customers.

Actually, I have to stop thinking about it. It's all too depressing for words. I don't know what is all going on or how to solve or help any of it.

Good on your grandma, by the way. That is a hilarious and entirely appropriate response.
