A bigger problem is that a large chunk of the population simply does not understand this problem. The answer for many older people is "you should have saved better"--they really just don't understand the numbers and challenges involved. Not to mention the wait times involved in trying to get any kind of health care as a younger person because so many older people are now requiring more medical help when tons of medical professionals are leaving the field due to burnout. Last time I checked it was 9 months to a year at my GP's to schedule a physical.
