I don't even think it's just the U.S.

But I really don't like it when people with resources just assume it's because they worked harder or smarter. Sometimes that's true--but there's also a lot of smart people and hard-working people not starting out with family money, and that makes it harder to succeed no matter how smart or hard-working they are.
