I grew up in an atmosphere where people were kind of tough on teachers--maybe they thought it was easy work with summers off? But no way would I call teaching pretend or easy now. Holy cow, between the kids and the parents...that's WORK and it's often work that's thankless.

The administrators and most "pedagogical experts" though--definitely pretend. :)
