I have been absolutely humbled by dementia. I don't write these stories because I can write, I write them because I'm in shock and I want everyone else not to be as surprised and gobsmacked by this subject as I have been. It has not only affected my mother, it has torn through family relationships that are nearly a half century old and that I thought were stronger than bedrock.
