I miss bookstores in general. I miss the idea that things were fundamentally knowable--if you read enough books about them. And a bookstore gave me the idea that if you just read through the whole store, you'd know what there was to know.
I miss that.
Love the idea of a free book exchange. My spouse jokes that wherever I go a trail of loose papers, notebooks, books, and magazines follow. There are currently books on every surface in my home. In the kitchen, in the bathroom, by the bed, by the couch, etc. They are one of the few physical items I find soothing. We have no decor other than books everywhere and kids' drawings taped to the wall. :)
I like writing a lot too. Interesting that you feel the words flow into you as opposed to out. I think writing is where I try to figure things out. It is work, but it's work I enjoy. I tried to read and write and figure out a different topic yesterday for a couple of hours--and it was so satisfying. Satisfying in a way that moving through the world physically or exercising or even more tangible things like gardening or cleaning or cooking are not.
Sometimes I wish those things appealed to me more though. They would probably make more sense to pursue than what I do.
Thanks for the conversation. It is enjoyable.
