I Take It Nobody Else Is Afraid Of Dogs?

“Loose Rottweiler” NextDoor postings in my neighborhood make me want to cry

I’ve left almost all social media apps, but I confess I still do check NextDoor every now and then to see if there’s any neighborhood news I should know.

It looks like I have to get off NextDoor as well, though, because I can’t read one more post stating something like “Loose Rottweiler found on Clear Street, wearing choke chain, seems friendly.”

The post has no comments but several “loves.”

I’d like to leave a comment, all right, but my comment would be less loving, and I have learned that the one thing you can’t say in modern American society is “I don’t like dogs.”

I don’t like dogs

There. I said it out loud.

I should note that I grew up on a farm where we always had a dog or two to help with managing our dairy cow herd when we needed to bring them back into the barn from the pasture. We also had dogs in the hope that they would double as watchdogs, and bark if someone started nosing around our isolated rural buildings.

I like animals in general and my parents were in a business that absolutely depended on animals. We were all grateful to our dairy herd as…
