I was kind of stirring the pot and kind of offering an olive branch to people who do not think of themselves as huge trusters of the scientific establishment. I didn't really know that was the part of the article that would stir the pot this much.
My larger point is that I need everyone to imagine how frightening it is to be stuck in pouring rain for 12-24 hours. It's appallingly scary, and when you're in it, your brain doesn't much care about science or anything else. It is being driven mad...but you still have to function. To me that was the most disturbing part, but I must say, scientists and people who work in the sciences should feel very good that they have many stalwart defenders!
