I'm always sorry to lose a reader and I honestly don't mean to write hit pieces on Boomers. I know they are faced with many poor choices too.

Frankly I think I take just as many swings here at the Silent Generation, who have no idea what the economy looks like ("just save your money like we did and you can have everything!") and many of whom are not selling their homes even when they do go to assisted living or the nursing home.

But really: my beef isn't with you. My beef is pretty clearly with developers who don't live in local areas, building large apartment buildings, taking money out of a community, and then disappearing with their cash.That doesn't do anyone--including Boomers--any favors.

p.s. what region of the country are you in? I am actually interested in learning where there are houses standing unused--and why. Please stick with me long enough to help me learn.
