I'm not here to take swings at dentists, as you need them when you've got bad teeth, but I totally agree with you about the differences in using a home to live in it or using it as your (or another of your) investment vehicles. I actually think property tax equations need to be reworked. In the neighborhood in my city where dentists live, they pay the same property tax rates I do, even though they basically live in a little set-off, not technically gated but basically gated area with no traffic and their very own "neighborhood" public school that is all rich and full of the smart and privileged kids of the rich. Their prop values should be based not only on the land value but on their amenities as well.
