I'm sorry, but there is a kind of awful logic in, I have nothing left to lose myself, so why not make you lose a little bit too. Corporate and tech types do it too, they just call it a "zero sum game," which is also awful and results in one winner (or maybe five or so--Bezos, Musk, Page, Gates, Zuckerberg) and millions of losers. Only they are not called stupid and their entire way of life belittled.

There are a lot of words in your response that are open to interpretation. Words like "logic" and "reasonable" mean different things to different people. They just do.

Also, if you think there is no emotion involved with voting for a range of candidates, I don't think you are being "reasonable." I would argue there are almost always emotions involved when voting for any candidate and it is time we accepted that. Humans are emotional beings and that should be one of the more interesting, reachable things about us.

also p.s. rural people do feel they are a little protected, because some of them do now how to feed themselves. I'm not saying that's right or wrong, but it does send you to the polls with a slightly different attitude.
