It definitely impacts your ability to make a living. Most of the kids in my family have structured our lives so caregiving comes first--for our kids but also for our parents--and it definitely puts a dent in your earning power. Without our spouses being able to work and have access to healthcare--none of our freelance careers would even work. It's ridiculous.
