I'm in a northern state so my whole life I've been like, really, immigrant ancestors, you couldn't hoof it a few more miles up to Canada? Then I could be Canadian, which is all I ever answered when people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.

Basically every middle class person hoards whatever they have because we are all desperate not to slip further down the economic ladder.

Most things done here are done to maneuver your children into the right social groupings and educational opportunities so they can get a job and therefore health insurance. It's exhausting.
