Love this article.

I call this the "JD Salinger Problem"--I actually consider his novel "Franny and Zooey" one of my spiritual texts, but all signs point to wow, was the guy a prick, especially in his dealings with the (much too young for him) Joyce Maynard.

I think on some level you have to realize people are real and flawed, and just because they can do beautiful things in one area does not make them perfect.

For my money nobody wrote more beautiful genre stories than Joss Whedon. "Firefly" is such textbook romance and western, but with such deep character and snappy dialogue work, wow, you still have to respect the work. I can do that while still encouraging its creator to be a more decent human being in real life.
