Mom was really proud of being a farmer and thought it was the best life for everyone. She actually wanted us to marry farmers and not bother with college. We kept telling her that none of the area farmers wanted anything to do with us, but you know, a mother's love...

Pretty much everything I knew about growing food I forgot. I was the youngest and was really just labor, so people just told me what to do when, and I didn't pay deeper attention to the whys and wherefores. I have much more knowledge about books because those are what I love. But the food skills would probably have been a smarter skill set to keep.
