My dad, a fairly good salesman himself, said this a lot: "People want to be sold to." Nobody can be an investigative journalist anymore because it takes time to do well, and no news organization will pay for it to be done, because well-researched, nuanced, complex investigative journalism is not what anyone wants to pay to read. I really think that says more about us, as in, the entire American population.
