What I didn’t know then, but definitely know now, is that she was trying to tell me something, but wasn’t allowed to tell me directly, or felt she couldn’t tell me directly. She was trying to tell me that young doctors will only focus on “recovery,” — whatever that means. That doctors have so much technology at their disposal, that “recovery,” was all but certain, in that they could eventually get my father off a ventilator and he would be technically “alive.”
