Not to get into a whole big thing, Hillbilly Elegy was okay (and as a former librarian I'm just happy when people read anything) but Brian Alexander's books, while less memoir and more journalism, are just so much better. They're challenging but they give the whole picture of how economics and culture and history all work together.
