Nothing marks you out as an asshole in my suburb faster than asking a few basic questions, I've found. So that's why I just took on the label for myself.
I love "sensible awareness." I tend to call that "looking at the sitch on the ground." (Once I read a few books on Kissinger, Nixon, and Vietnam, I had an even greater disrespect for people who never actually LOOK at the situations they are busily and happily creating for their own power and enrichment.)
I really can't disagree with your sentiment. I think there are many things to do (and many more that need doing) for the earth and each other that we should do. But I am also weak and afraid. I'll admit I'm pissed because I finally clawed my way into the middle class and off the farm and, I'll admit this is selfish, I just wanted to enjoy it for a while. Like I know food needs to be raised and I wish we would pay people more to do THOSE kinds of jobs--but currently we don't. And raising food is so, so hard. I hated it, to be honest with you.
But I think this issue is going to force itself, sooner than we think.
Thank you for reading.
p.s. hey Auntiegrav, have you ever read Robert Jackall's "Moral Mazes"? It's awesome but I keep getting stuck in the first chapter. I'm looking for somebody to read it "with."
