Sadly, no, the cow was not real. (Trust me, I would have known, if a cow is anywhere and goes to the bathroom you KNOW it--big animal, big poop.) But she was convinced she'd had a cow in the house and was caring for it (and it "never went beyond the living room"--no cow in real life is that well behaved, either.) Dementia is a wild ride.
