Shirley Jackson's Life Among the Savages and Raising Demons are both so awesome, but be aware they were written in the 1950s and it requires your brain to be in a bit of a different place. (My favorite memory of them is Shirley having her coffee and a cigarette before catching a cab to the hospital to have one of her babies--ah, a "simpler" time.) After you read them I think you'll also probably have to read a biography of Jackson to reconcile the love and art she made out of raising a family in the face of her own childhood demons and a husband who was emphatically not much of a helpmate or loyal spouse.
