Competition for readers and their time is so fierce that writers have to check out all avenues to get their attention--but after a while you start to see what is really popular at Medium, and if you don't fit the style, it's maybe not the right place. I could deal with all that and had made peace with experimenting on Medium but not using it for income--I was just annoyed that so many were so happy with seemingly so little, and that delivered only through the unknowable graces of our superiors. Ugh.
