Thank you for reading and thank you for this response. I can't disagree with anything you say.

A very unsettling moment came for me years ago when I read an oral history of the genocide in Rwanda ("Machete Season"), where the author spoke with Hutu people who had killed Tutsis. One of the Hutu said, well, if we killed people for a while in the morning, and then took the metal sheeting they had for their homes and other things, that was easier and more lucractive work than farming all day.

And god help me, I got what that person was saying. Not many people know or respect that about farming. It's a problem, and it's going to be a shock when even our fuel- and cheap-labor-intensive farming starts to fail us...
