This number is shocking.

Thank you for writing this article. Why do we all stand for this?

For me the number that hit personally was realizing that my son's birth cost more than 50,000 dollars. When I was working as a librarian (a job for which I needed a master's degree) I was making 40,000 a year. I couldn't imagine that two days of work for the medical profession cost more than my entire year of work in the library. Something is seriously out of whack in our society and our economics.
