It's difficult because my parents were good with money, and had good luck (and they also worked extremely hard). But man, when you get older, it really gets harder to assimilate new info and changing circumstances on the ground. This "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps" thing, it was never easy, and now it's nearly impossible.
The construction of housing is so difficult too because once again it is mostly the investors and developers who receive all the subsidies, and who then turn around and charge exorbitant rents to their tenants. We're so far down so many rabbit holes that I fear voting, even when not gerrymandered, is not going to get the job done.
