Well, that's weird.

I totally never know what Medium is doing or why and have largely made my peace with that. Mainly because if you do make a little, they pay you out in a month. As an editorial freelancer who is used to waiting 3-6 months for payment, that little fact alone buys my loyalty. (I'm so cheap.)

I'm actually not opposed to humans boosting stuff, and who knows why they do it. Because they're buddies? Because certain articles are good and just won't find an audience? Because certain subjects just need a little highlighting? I don't know.

I don't need everything to be a popularity contest of more views equaling more pay. But it seems like you could do both--do the boosting whatever intangible way you're doing it, but still have a small (maybe not even up to the level of the boost one) earnings multiplier for everything past 20K reads or 90% read ratio or something. This is what I don't get about the way people wield technology. We have it, but they can never use it in little ways to fine-tune (like crunching the numbers on high-read ratio articles and rewarding them) a system, usually they just let the algorithm go nuts and do everything and cut people out completely.

I also do like reading stuff on Medium. Maybe the unfathomable nature of the boosts is what leads to some different stuff being written here. I can't find anything else like your writing, for instance, anywhere else.

Thanks for reading and for the comment.
