Well, there's wealth, and then there's wealth.

This is my experience of watching the wealthier people in my Midwestern community.

The rich people I see, many of whom count as being in the top quintile (because I know what some of them make), absolutely do want and win scholarships. I see their kids pictured in the paper signing their commitment letters or whatever they're called. This is partly for status, partly so their children can have a tribe (sports team) within a tribe (their high school class), and partly because rich people are the absolute cheapest people I know.

I may be wrong in parts. I recognize that I don't see and have no idea how the top 1% or even 5% lives. But I don't think I'm wrong about everything here.
