Yes, I do the "share a relatable story" thing too and my tween boys HATE that.

I kind of think I'm not doing their job as a mother if I'm not giving them something to complain about, though, so I'm going to keep doing it. :)

But yes, although, like you, I prefer the NY style (which is a term I like almost as much as "cooperative overlapping"), I am trying to listen more and better. Fingers crossed!
