Yes, I was struck by the increase in household numbers as well. Down to divorce, etc., as you say, but also a lot more older elderly people living in pairs or alone than used to be. It all adds up.

I'm not surprised the houses are full--around here houses are going for stupid money. At the end of the day people still want houses in most places--not apartments, even with similar square footage.

I think the government is busy being lobbied by any number of corporations who have an interest in keeping the supply low? But I don't know about that.
