Yes, there are lots of possibilities in life. A lot of time caregiving just develops more than it is planned--I know that mom herself, always the soul of independence, would be shocked to see her current reality. The most painful moments with her are the ones where she knows she needs a lot of help and it makes her angry. I much prefer it when she is very tired or mostly doesn't know that she doesn't know.
