You make fair points. Like all labels, generational labels don't explain everything, but I think they still provide a starting point for discussions.

I do happen to believe that the era in which you are born and grow up shapes you, particularly as our technologies changed so fast over the past 50-100 years. FWIW I don't actually feel a real part of my generation, my parents were older and traditional and made me feel like I was raised in a time period 50 years earlier than I was.

There will always be individuals, like your dad, who seem to be outliers. Doesn't mean there's no validity at all to some other groupings. You yourself group people when you suggest that most "Millennials" have led fairly boring lives.
