You said a lot when you said this: "They are not ready..."

My spouse and I say this about my mother-in-law all the time. She's wonderful and we love her and we understand why she clings to dreams of feeling more energetic and doing more hobbies and organizing. But as she nears 80? The house and yard are simply getting to be too hard for her to maintain. But she is not ready to admit that, and we have accepted that it is futile to push. Like you, we now just keep quiet and accept that it's not our choice at this point.

Kudos to you for downsizing. I really feel like that is a gift to your children and other family members.
